Mt Hutt’s Rookie Instructor Training is a 12-day programme for confident riders on reds and blacks who want to turn strong skiing or snowboarding into a real career step.

You’ll train with NZSIA and SBINZ trainers and examiners through on-snow coaching and indoor workshops, building the technical, teaching and exam-ready skills needed to step into instructor opportunities with confidence. Enrol by 31 May.

Please note: The NZSIA and SBINZ Exam fee is an additional $960 and external to the Rookie Instructor Training Programme cost.

Can I get a job as a ski or snowboard instructor at Mt Hutt after the course?

The Mt Hutt Rookie Instructor Training Programme is one of the most direct pathways into a paid ski or snowboard instructor role with NZSki.

While employment isn’t guaranteed, participants will have the opportunity to interview during the programme, and successful candidates may be offered a role on the Mt Hutt Snowsports team, depending on performance and availability.

What’s included in the Mt Hutt ski and snowboard instructor course?

The programme includes 12 days of coaching at Mt Hutt, running daily from 9am – 3:30pm.

You’ll take part in a mix of on-snow ski and snowboard training and indoor workshops, covering technique, teaching methods and guest experience. The course also includes an interview opportunity for a ski or snowboard instructor role on Day 10.

If you enrol before 31 May 2026, a 3 Peak Season Pass is included, giving you access to Mt Hutt, Coronet Peak and The Remarkables for the season.

What ability level do I need to be for the Mt Hutt Ski or Snowboard instructor training?

Mt Hutt instructor training is designed for strong intermediate to advanced skiers and snowboarders who are confident riding on red and black terrain.

You don’t need previous teaching experience, but you should be comfortable skiing or riding in a range of conditions and ready to develop both your technical skills and your ability to teach others.
