Ski/ Snowboard Rentals

Renting Gear from us? Visit our friendly rental team in the base lodge. They'll get you fitted and kitted for a great day on the snow. We can sort you with clothing, skis/snowboard, boots, poles and helmets. Allow at least 30 minutes to get fitted.

Skiing back to back days? Our overnight storage is a great option for a fast pickup the next day.  Drop if off at our Rentals area when you're finished for the day. We'll keep your equipment together and ready for you to pick up in the morning. Subject to availability.

Mt Hutt Snowsports School has you sorted. From first-timer lessons and confidence-building kids’ programmes to private coaching and next-level sessions for seasoned shredders chasing more.

Whether you’re clipping in for the first time or fine-tuning your turns, our world-class coaches know how to meet you where you’re at and help you push a bit further.

Lesson options range from a couple of hours to full day and multi-day programmes.

Kiosks | Mypass pickup

Our Guest Services desk is located at the entrance of the base building. We recommend pre-purchasing products before your day on the maunga; however, if you need to make a purchase on the day or have a query, our Guest Services team are happy to help.

Purchased your passes online? With your email confirmation, you can skip the queue and collect your passes from our self-service kiosks, located outside the base lodge at car park level.

Staying in Methven? Swing by our Snowdesk at 94 Main Street (Open 8am-4pm from 15 June) and collect your passes the day before heading up the maunga. Less time sorting things out, more time getting stuck into the good stuff.

The top of Mt Hutt is one heck of a spot for a photo! Hop on the Summit Six and soak up the views from 2086 metres. From the top, you’ll see all the way across the Canterbury Plains to the Pacific, with the Southern Alps stretching out behind you.

Yes. Mt Hutt has extensive snowmaking coverage across key beginner and main runs. This helps maintain consistent ski and snowboard conditions throughout the season.

How far is Mt Hutt from Christchurch?

Mt Hutt is around 1 hour 30 minutes’ drive from Christchurch International Airport and approximately 35 minutes from Methven. The access road is unsealed. Please check our Snow Report before heading up for the latest mountain, road and weather conditions.

The Mt Hutt snow report is updated daily during the ski season, usually early morning before lifts open and throughout the day as the weather changes. It includes snowfall totals, base depth, lift status, weather, and grooming updates.

Is Mt Hutt good for beginners?

Yes. Mt Hutt is one of New Zealand’s best ski fields for beginners. Wide, open learner areas, dedicated beginner lifts, and top-tier ski and snowboard lessons with our qualified instructors make it an ideal place to start. We keep things simple up here at Mt Hutt. Everything you need for a smooth day on the snow is right at base, no mucking about.

Facilities
You’ll find bathrooms, changing areas, outside storage for easy access, and paid storage facilities in our Rentals area. Whether you're travelling light or toting the full whānau setup, we’ve got space to stash your gear while you hit the slopes.

Rentals
First time up the hill? Travelling light? Our on-mountain Rental Centre has you sorted with skis, snowboards, boots, helmets and waterproof outerwear. Easy as, and no need to lug gear from home.

Kai & Coffee
Ōpuke Kai Café is your go-to for hot meals, kids’ snacks, sweet treats and barista-made coffee with one heck of a view. We’ve got friendly staff and food options for even the pickiest eaters.

Lessons
Whether it's their first slide or they’re ready to level up, our ski and snowboard lessons are run by qualified instructors who know how to keep it fun and confidence-building for both kids and adults.

Getting Around
We’ve made getting around easy. From our fast lifts to our free car park shuttles running all day between lower lots. No need to carry all the gear uphill.

What snow gear can I rent at Mt Hutt?

On-mountain ski, snowboard and helmet rentals are available for adults and children, along with jackets and pants. For hygiene reasons, gloves and goggles are not available to rent. If you need them, our on-mountain snow shop stocks the latest gear and is an easy stop for any last-minute essentials. We recommend booking rentals online in advance during peak periods to save time on arrival.
