Spring at Mt Hutt means longer days, softer snow and a fresh kind of energy – all served up with that classic Kiwi hospitality. Whether you're carving fresh cord under a banger sunrise or soaking up the sun with an après on the deck at Ōpuke Kai, spring on Your Mountain is something not to be missed.
Here's why Spring at Mt Hutt is one of the best times to ski in New Zealand.

Spring gives you time to slow down, explore more and savour every lap. Kick things off under golden morning light, then cruise through the afternoon as the snow softens. As the sun climbs, Mt Hutt shifts into spring mode – less bulky layers, no frozen fingers, just feel-good turns from first chair to last.
Fresh corduroy greets the early birds, perfect for carving, clocking up a few laps or building confidence. With fewer people on the hill, it's easier to find your rhythm, dial in your technique, or jump into a lesson and level up.
As the snow softens, it becomes playful and forgiving. Perfect for linking cruisy turns, testing out a few new tricks in Hutt Parks or heading off to explore more of Your Mountain's wide-open terrain.
When it's time for a breather, Ōpuke Kai is the place to be. Sitting right beside the base building, you'll find flat whites, pizzas, fresh salads and mountain views on tap. Whether you're warming up or winding down, stopping in at Ōpuke Kai is a Hutt rite of passage. Grab a spot on the sunny deck, refuel with a slice and something cold in hand, then get back out there.

Spring is a cracker time for whānau, first timers, and anyone keen to build confidence on snow. Warmer days make for a more comfortable time on the maunga, especially for little ones, and with fewer crowds there's more room to learn at your own pace.
Mt Hutt's learner-friendly terrain, experienced instructors and relaxed spring vibe make it easy to pick up new skills without the mid-winter hustle.
Keen to make the most of it? Spring's the perfect time to jump into a lesson. Check out what's on offer and find the right fit for you or the whole whānau.

Spring might be known for sunshine and cruisy laps, but it can still catch you by surprise. Some of the season's best powder days have rolled through in September, bringing freshies that completely transform the mountain.
If the forecast lines up, get up early to make the most of those fresh turns (and don't forget your chains). So don't pack the ski gear away just yet. Spring can go from soft spring laps to an epic powder day overnight.

With longer afternoons and milder days, après hits differently in Spring. Settle in on the sunny deck at Ōpuke Kai with mountain views, live music and a well-earned drink as the lifts slow to a stop. Too good.
And this spring, there's plenty happening off the snow too.
On Friday 4 September, we're hosting the South Island Secondary Schools Ski & Snowboard Race and Slopestyle Championships. Sign the kids up or come along to soak up the atmosphere and cheer them on.
Then on 19 September, a local's favourite returns; Methven Chill Fest. Mt Hutt and Hutt Parks bring the snow to town for a street-style rail and jump session that's always a crowd favourite. Expect live music, food trucks, a bar and plenty happening throughout the day. Best of all, it's a community event with all proceeds going to a local cause. Come through, support the locals and enjoy a bloody good day out.
Spring serves up epic laps, bluebird days and some of the best value of the season. Whether you're chasing a few last turns or planning a full spring escape, we've got a pass to match your vibe.
