Why Mt Hutt is perfect for family ski holidays

Mt Hutt is a great choice for a family ski holiday! It has an easily accessible beginner area, dedicated children’s lessons, plus a range of free snow activities. Oh, and did we mention that kids under 5 ski for free?

Only 90 minutes from Christchurch or 45 minutes from Methven, you and the family will be enjoying this winter wonderland before you know it.

Kids under 5 get a free lift pass

If your little one is under 5 years old, they get free day passes at Mt Hutt. They can also get a season pass for the cost of the card itself - $5! Simply head to Guest Services with proof of your child’s age and they will hand you a free lift ticket. It doesn’t get much better than that.

Kid-friendly beginner area

Our beginner-friendly area with a magic carpet means no hiking hills to learn or navigating rope tows! The slope itself is an easy gradient with a flat run out at the bottom to keep kids safe when they are still learning to stop. The beginner slope isn’t far from the café and toilets either.

Once your bundle of joy has mastered this carpet, there’s another one not far away that is steeper and will allow them to progress their skills even more before jumping on a chairlift.

Ski & snowboard lessons packages

We offer Group Lessons for skiers from 5 years of age and snowboarders from 7 years. Private lessons are also available and can be organised for younger children to help them progress their skills. For first timers we recommend our First Timer or Intro to Snow packages that include Lift Passes, Lessons and Equipment Rental.

Early childhood centre

If the kids are not keen to ski but you are, they can join our early childhood centre for a full or half day. We offer early childhood care for those aged 2 to 5 years old. These programmes offer a combination of inside play, education and outside snow play. Our centre is a fully licensed Early Learning Centre with the NZ Ministry of Education so you can rest assured your little ones will be well looked after and enjoy their time in the snow.
